Introduction & PURPOSE
Today we want to take a closer look at a small, rare and yet, very useful specialist pouch made by Mayflower RC. The Master Breacher Bag or MBB.
Mayflower Research and Consulting is part of Velocity Systems for a time now and serves as their specialist wing for developing and producing speciality nylon solutions for special forces worldwide. Mayflower RC is veteran owned and and is well known for finding simple, yet efficient solutions for unconventional problems that SF units are facing on a regular basis. None of their products has been developed for the pure sake of invention but instead to solve a very specific problem a certain unit faced somewhere on earth. This of course also is true for the Master Breacher Bag.
If you ever have performed some breaching you may have faced the challenge of where to store your charges while having them quickly acessible. This is especially true if you have to handle multiple smaller charges or larger or water shielded charges.
A common approach to transport such charges is to fold them and place them somewhere in a pants cargo pocket. But cargo pockets arent made for charges and more important, they will soak water and therefore bring the charge in contact with the elements which is a thing you dont want to happen.
Overall Construction
To organize smaller slap charges the MBB comes with an elastic insert, which can be velcroed to the inside of the pouch, allowing for various heights. The MBB is made out of highly water repellant and yet lightweight fabrics, which are namely LiteLok and Blue Force Gears excellent UltraComp fabric.
Closure of the MBB is achieved in two kinds of ways. The first one is the very obvious 20mm Fastex buckle which also serves as an additional safety while being on route to your target. The second and most unique feature are those two rare earth magnet closures which allow for a quick, yet silent opening.
The MBB is designed to be mounted in front of your leg, to either your gun belt or your pants belt. This is achieved by two oversized loops made of UltraComp, which will even slide over larger belt buckles. To add additional stability Mayflower RC added leg strap to the MBB which conists of a small piece of elastic webbing and an adjustable piece of 25mm webbing. The legstrap is closed by a 25mm ITW fastex buckle.
If the charge is used or the MBB isnt needed anymore, it folds out of the way, just like a roll-up dump pouch. After this, you wont barely notice it due to its absolutely ridculous light weight.
This light weight is achieved by strategic use of innovative fabrics. As said before the main body is constructed out of LiteLok fabric which could be best described as a more robust version of parachute nylon.
To give the whole construction the right amount of rigidity, Two layers of UltraComp laminate are backing the MBBs top. Also almost every seam features some additional bartacking for added stability.
The bottom of the MBB features two medium drainage grommets for and is, again, reinforced with a lasercut piece of UltraComp laminate on the front area, right where the pouch will likely face most wear and tear. Mayflower managed to really reduce the material used to a minimum and I have been using this pouch semi-constantly for over 5 years now.
PERFORMANCE & OBSERVATIONS
There is some fraying going on to the UltraComp fabric as you might see. But this is something that will eventually happen to every lasercut laminate, as folded Cordura is always the stronger but yet heavier solution when it comes to rugged corners.
Now I already hear people asking: „I dont do breaching can I use it as a magazine dump pouch?“. Yes you can, but you would be better off using a dedicated magazine dumppouch. But to give you another application where the MBB really shines is to use it as a small SSE bag as it sports a bigger capacity than most dumppouches. It also makes a great „makeshift“ thigh pocket when you are using civilian clothing.
All in all the MBB is a very specialized product which makes it so interesting. Especially those of you who actually need to carry slap charges should take this product into consideration. For everyone else it is a great piece of gear history and shows how the development process of Mayflower RC and Velocity Systems actually works. As making good gear is always about actual problem solving and not like „hey lets build another chestrig“.

It is always a pleasure to get our hands on such an unique product as the MBB. The Master Breacher Bag is a top choice for those who have to carry charges and it is one of the few dedicated pouches that offer quick access to even larger breaching solutions. It keeps the charg dry and protected while adding almost no bulk and weight.
Where to buy?
The MBB was a one off collaboration between Mayflower RC and Apex-Pred. Because of its specialized nature it isnt available for purchase in Velocity Systems online store. So units, companies and agencies should contact Velocity Systems directly to get access to the MBB.
